Amar Dedic injury concern as Jaissle faces big call at Crystal Palace

Newcastle United are hoping to have Amar Dedic available for Sunday’s trip to Crystal Palace, but Matthias Jaissle faces a big decision over whether to bring the right-back straight back into his starting XI.

The Bosnian international was named on the bench against Aston Villa on Saturday, but a new report suggests he was not yet considered match fit, raising questions over whether he will be ready to start at Selhurst Park.

Dedic still working his way back

According to Mark Douglas’ latest report for The iPaper, Dedic was not considered ready to play despite being included among Newcastle’s substitutes for the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

The report adds that he could return to action against Palace, but it's thought he is not yet capable of playing the full 90 minutes, raising doubts around his readiness to start.

Dedic has been gradually working his way back from a hamstring injury sustained before the international break. He has missed out on starting the last two games since our return to action, with Lewis Miley filling in at right-back while Tino Livramento remains sidelined with another injury.

However, Miley struggled at times against Aston Villa on Saturday, leaving Jaissle with a difficult decision to make ahead of our trip to Selhurst Park.

Jaissle faces big call at right-back

There is little doubt that Newcastle would benefit from having Dedic back in his natural position.

The Bosnian made an encouraging start to the season before his injury, offering energy and quality down the right flank. His ability to get forward and support Newcastle’s attacking play makes him an important option for Jaissle, particularly in a system that demands plenty from its full-backs.

But the key question is whether Dedic is ready to start. If he is still unable to complete 90 minutes, Newcastle would be taking a risk by selecting a player who is not fully match fit. There is also the possibility that pushing him back into action too soon could aggravate the hamstring problem and leave him sidelined for longer.

On the other hand, leaving Dedic out again would mean potentially relying on Miley at right-back. The Geordie talent was poor on Saturday, and with Livramento still working towards full fitness, our options in this position remain limited.

Dedic’s return could provide a welcome boost, but risk him too soon could backfire if he's not yet 100% fit.
