Amar Dedic injury update as Bosnia boss bemoans Newcastle mistake

Newcastle United have been handed a positive update on Amar Dedic, despite the defender being forced to withdraw from Bosnia and Herzegovina duty during the current international break.

Dedic aggravated his hamstring injury during our 4-1 defeat to Leeds United, but he is now expected to be available for our trip to Coventry in just under three weeks. 

Dedic set to return after international break

Bosnia and Herzegovina head coach Sergej Barbarez confirmed that Dedic re-aggravated the hamstring problem during Newcastle’s game against Leeds.

Barbarez is clearly frustrated that the 24-year-old was risked at Elland Road, but expects him to be back in action for Newcastle after the break. 

“Amar Dedic re-aggravated his hamstring injury in the game against Leeds United. If he had not played that game he would be joining us right now.

“But now he will miss this window of Nations League for us and should be ready for the first game after the international break for Newcastle United.”

Dedić will miss Bosnia’s four Nations League matches during this extended international window, with Poland (home and away), Romania and Sweden to come. 

A welcome boost at right-back 

This is exactly the sort of news Newcastle will have been hoping for, especially now fellow right-back Tino Livramento looks set for another spell on the sidelines after missing our 2-1 win over Hull on Saturday. 

Dedic has struggled with the hamstring issue since our 1-0 win at Millwall. While it is frustrating that he aggravated it against Leeds, where he shouldn’t have been risked in hindsight, avoiding another lengthy absence is the priority.

The international break now gives Dedic time to recover properly, with the hope that he can and several others can return to full training soon after NINE sat out Saturday’s win at St James’ Park.
