Anthony Gordon medical at Barcelona could be as soon as this week - Report
After Barcelona bid £69.3 million plus add-ons for Anthony Gordon, this winger's Newcastle United exit could be very swift indeed.
The writing has been on the wall for a while when it comes to Anthony Gordon and Newcastle United. The winger hasn't kicked a ball in anger for Newcastle since the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in April.
Eddie Howe didn't even bring Gordon off the bench in the last few games of the season, saying that he was focused on the future, which suggested that he was aware that Gordon wouldn't be part of his squad next season.
Newcastle set a price of £80 million for Gordon, and now that Barcelona has offered almost £70 million, which could rise with add-ons, it feels like a deal could be very close.
The deal could move very quickly
Things are expected to move pretty quickly, as reported by The Telegraph, which claims that Gordon could have his medical with Barcelona as early as this week.
Gordon is due to fly out to Florida with the England squad on Monday to prepare for the World Cup, so it would be in everybody's best interests if the deal could be concluded this week.
However, John Percy, who wrote the piece for The Telegraph, did make it clear that an agreement hasn't been reached just yet, and Bayern Munich and Liverpool still remain at the table.
Barcelona prefers Gordon to Rashford
Personal terms between Gordon and Barcelona aren't expected to be an issue, so as soon as the two clubs agree on the structure of the deal, this one could move very quickly indeed.
While Gordon will cost more than Marcus Rashford initially, given Barcelona's £30 million option to buy the Manchester United winger, the fact that Gordon is younger and has lower wage demands makes him a better option for the Spanish side.
As we keep saying, as long as the deal is done sooner rather than later with a preferable move abroad, we'll be happy enough. Having it all tied up before next week would be a huge bonus.
