Anthony Gordon sell-on clause revealed as Chelsea join £80m race - Report

Newcastle United look increasingly likely to part ways with Anthony Gordon in the summer, with top clubs circling the England winger.

David Hopkinson made it clear recently that Newcastle will have to sell big players to fund their incoming transfer activity, and Anthony Gordon looks like a deal that should be pretty easy to do.

Bayern Munich and Arsenal have shown a fair bit of interest in Gordon of late, and now The Athletic claims Chelsea is also very keen, and Liverpool could revive their interest in the 25-year-old.

Anthony Gordon's standing amongst the Newcastle fans has taken quite a hit of late after some sub-par performances this season. Many fans feel that the winger has only turned up for big games, particularly in the Champions League. That's certainly been reflected in the numbers, given that 10 of his 17 goals this season have come in that competition.

Newcastle want £80m for Gordon

It just feels as though Gordon's time at Newcastle is coming to an end, even though The Athletic does point out that Gordon has not communicated a desire to leave the club.

Everton inserted a 15% sell-on clause in his deal when he signed for Newcastle in January 2023 for £45 million, so Newcastle are expected to have a pretty high asking price for Gordon, believed to be around £80 million.

The Athletic does claim that Newcastle seem more inclined to sell Anthony Gordon than any other players currently being linked with summer sales, such as Tino Livramento and Sandro Tonali.

If we can make good money, we should definitely sell

After his output this season, we feel that if we can get £80 million for Anthony Gordon, that would be excellent business. He just hasn't been consistent enough in the Premier League, where it matters. Two assists for a winger is a pretty shocking statistic.

Our preference would be for him to move to Bayern Munich, however. We'd much rather he went abroad than came back to haunt us in the Premier League.

We still rate Gordon highly when he plays to his full capability, so we know that if he moved to the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool, he'd put the performances in we know he's capable of, and that would be frustrating to watch.
