Newcastle ready for £75m Anthony Gordon talks after Bayern Munich interest - Report
Anthony Gordon's time at Newcastle United has taken another step closer to ending today, according to a new report.
For the last week or so, reports linking Anthony Gordon with a move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have been everywhere.
The stories have mostly originated from the continent but have been picked up by English outlets too, but now the media at home is getting in on the act.
The Times have now reported that the Magpies are willing to open talks with Bayern over the sale of Gordon this summer.
Until now, all the reports have been that Gordon's people have been in touch with Bayern's representatives, and a few have suggested that the player is keen on the move.
Newcastle set £75m price tag for Anthony Gordon
The Times now claims that if the German club are willing to meet Newcastle's £75 million valuation for the England winger, then they will be willing to talk.
Early reports had suggested that Bayern Munich would be looking at a £55 million bid, which was about £20 million shy of what many expected Gordon's valuation to be, but now that there's an actual price out there in the ether, we may now see just how serious these stories are.
The report makes it clear that there have been no club-to-club talks as yet, but it looks as though things are starting to align.
Anthony Gordon's absence from Newcastle's squad on Saturday has kicked up speculation to another level. Even though the official story is that the 25-year-old had picked up an injury in training, nobody is buying that excuse.
We doubt there'll be many tears shed
After it was revealed that Gordon was open to leaving Newcastle in the summer, a large section of the Toon fanbase quickly turned on the winger, so if these latest reports turn out to be true, we can't imagine there'll be many tears shed.
We have mixed feelings on the subject. Anthony Gordon is an immensely talented player, and on his day, he can be phenomenal; however, it's fair to say that those days have become increasingly infrequent.
There's also a feeling that he believes his own hype a bit too much, and his ego and ambition probably outweigh his actual talent. We'll be sad to see him go, but if we get £75 million for him and he goes to a non-Premier League side, we'll be pretty happy with that.
