Charlie McArthur joins York City after leaving Newcastle United
Charlie McArthur has found a new club after being released by Newcastle United.
The 21-year-old joined Newcastle in 2022 as part of the first wave of youngsters to be snapped up by the new ownership.
McArthur started his career at Kilmarnock before joining Newcastle at the age of 17 after captaining the Scotland U17S side at the European Championships that summer.
The defender had bags of potential but never managed to realise it in the black and white. He spent time away from the club on loan at Carlisle United and Airdrieonians.
Charlie McArthur signs for York City
McArthur's contract wasn't renewed at Newcastle this summer, but it hasn't taken him long to find a new home, announcing via Instagram that he will join York City.
"New club, new challenge! Can’t wait to get started💪"
Lewis Miley and Paul Dummett were amongst those linked with Newcastle to wish him well, along with Cathal Heffernan and Harrison Ashby.
Charlie McArthur will play in League Two next season
York City will return to the football league next season after gaining promotion out of the National League into League Two after a decade in exile.
It feels like a bit of a step down for the lad after arriving at Newcastle with so much promise, but there's nothing to say that he can't work his way back up the leagues. This move could be the making of him.
Best of luck, Charlie.
