Chris Sutton expects Newcastle frustration as prediction scorecard stays at zero

Chris Sutton is predicting a 1-1 draw between Newcastle United and Hull City on Saturday, still waiting for his first correct Newcastle result of the season.

His draw prediction at Leeds became the fourth wrong call from four games, leaving him on zero points heading into the next instalment of The Sutton Scorecard.

Now he expects Hull to frustrate us at St James’ Park, although he’s already apologising to Tigers supporters for finally backing their side to avoid defeat.

Sutton predicts a frustrating afternoon against Hull

In his latest BBC Sport predictions, Sutton praises Hull’s defending, attacking ambition and threat from set-pieces ahead of Saturday’s 3pm kick-off.

“I can see this being a frustrating afternoon for Newcastle because they are going to come up against a Hull team who are brilliant at defending the box but are also brave with the way they throw people forward.
“They are a threat from set-plays too but they have got the bit between their teeth and their whole attitude seems to be 'attack the Premier League' after getting promoted, which I really admire.
“Along with Ipswich, Hull are the only other team I've predicted to lose all their games so far.
“I am going to tip them not to lose this time... so you know what is probably going to happen. Apologies in advance to Tigers fans, because this happened with me and Sunderland last season.”

How did his Leeds prediction go?

In our first Sutton Scorecard, Sutton backed a 1-1 draw at Elland Road.

Instead, Newcastle suffered a 4-1 defeat, with Bazoumana Touré’s late consolation coming after Leeds had already put the game well beyond us. Another wrong result, another zero points.

That follows his unsuccessful calls against Liverpool, Tottenham and Bournemouth. Four games, four wrong outcomes. At least the maths is straightforward.

Still, his record won’t make Hull any easier to beat. Newcastle need a response to Monday’s performance, and a home win would be a far more welcome reason to keep his scorecard unchanged.
