Danilo keen on Premier League move amid Newcastle interest - Report

Newcastle United have identified Danilo Santos as a target to replace Sandro Tonali after his £100 million move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Magpies missed out on primary target Johan Manzambi, who opted for a move to Aston Villa when all reports were pointing towards Newcastle capturing the Swiss star.

In the background, however, there were reports that Newcastle were eyeing Brazilian midfielder Danilo Santos, who plays for Botafogo.

The former Nottingham Forest star has been catching the eye of several clubs with some quality performances in the Brazilian Serie A.

Danilo wants a move to a 'major' league

According to ESPN Brazil, Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg have been very active in trying to convince the 25-year-old to join them, with no luck.

It's instead believed that Danilo would prefer a move to one of the 'major' leagues in Europe, which leaves the door wide open for Newcastle United to make their move.

Failing that, Danilo is reportedly keen to return to Brazilian club Palmeiras, where he originally got his start.

Danilo could be a bargain

We weren't so convinced that the interest in Danilo was real when it first appeared, but it's lingering around long enough now that there may be some truth to the rumours.

The last we heard was when Chelsea dropped out of the race, and given they're about to nab Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, it seems as though we're probably safe from their grubby mitts.

It looks as though Danilo could be available for under £30 million, with Palmeiras already having bid £21.5 million, which was rejected, so there's a potential for a bargain here, especially as he already has Premier League experience and seems to be hitting peak form right now.
