Don Hutchison reveals Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson masterplan
Sandro Tonali has been continuously linked with a move away from Newcastle United, pretty much since he arrived, but the rumours have gathered pace this year.
Ever since Arsenal were reported to be planning a January deadline day raid for the Italian, speculation over his future has been rife, and he's now seen as one of Newcastle's big stars who could be sold in the summer to fund a rebuild.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal have all shown interest in the midfielder, according to reports, and of course, there's the ever-present links with a return to Italy, even though they always come with the caveat that no Italian club could afford him.
As the summer window gets nearer, the talk of Tonali leaving has died down, and there are those who believe the 25-year-old could still stay on Tyneside.
Don Hutchison has a plan
Former Sunderland man and Newcastle fan Don Hutchison has come up with a plan for the Magpies if they are to sell Tonali.
Taking to X, Hutchison has urged Newcastle to sell Tonali to Manchester City for a genius reason.
"If Newcastle are selling Tonali in the summer (I hope not) They have to think smart and sell him to Man City.
"That way Man City get Tonali and stops them going for Elliot Anderson. Newcastle then buy Anderson and bring him back to Newcastle"
If only it were so straightforward
It's a solid plan for the most part on initial viewing, but there is a huge flaw, and that's City's Manchester neighbours.
The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new midfielder, and they have both Tonali and Elliot Anderson on their shortlist, so Tonali going to City just opens the door for Anderson to go to United.
Of course, the money Newcastle gets from Tonali could give the Magpies the edge in negotiations when it comes to Anderson, and we're sure that the South Shields native would prefer a return home than a switch to Man United.
If Newcastle sell Tonali and replaces him with Anderson, we won't be too mad about that at all.
