Eddie Howe and Ross Wilson react to Aladji Bamba signing

Aladji Bamba has become Newcastle United's fourth signing of the summer after arriving from Monaco.

The club announced the signing on Friday morning, just 24 hours after the news broke that the Magpies had agreed a fee with Monaco.

The 20-year-old Frenchman is a self-described box-to-box midfielder, but his strength seems to be in defensive actions if Opta's stats on Ligue 1 duels are to go by.

Bamba joins fellow Frenchman Ewen Jaouen as a Newcastle United newcomer along with Sean Steur and Bazoumana Toure as Ross Wilson build's Eddie Howe a new, young squad.

Eddie Howe hints at Aladji Bamba's role in the side

The Newcastle manager spoke to the official website, where he has hinted at what kind of role Bamba will play going forward.

“I’m really pleased to see Aladji become a Newcastle United player. He’s another exciting, young signing who we’re really looking forward to working with.

“Aladji adds depth and a range of qualities to our midfield options, with huge potential for growth. His development since breaking through at Monaco has been really impressive and something we believe we can help him build on.

“He operates in a deeper role but has the ability to contribute all over the pitch, which he demonstrated in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season."

Ross Wilson has been tracking Bamba for a while

Sporting director Ross Wilson, who is the brains behind Newcastle's new recruitment approach, said that the club has been watching Bamba closely for a while before making their move.

“We’ve followed Aladji’s progress with Monaco in France closely, and his profile has been rising fast across Europe.

“When we saw the opportunity and his desire to come to Newcastle United, we moved quickly to secure his signature.

“We’re excited to see his evolution here in the Premier League and we are delighted to welcome him to Tyneside as our fourth addition to the squad this summer.”
