Former Newcastle defender Steven Taylor bags another promotion as manager

Ex-Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor is honing his management skills in the balmy climes of the Middle East.

Steven Taylor left Newcastle United in 2016, moving to the MLS with Portland Timbers before returning to England with Ipswich and Peterborough then heading to New Zealand with Wellington Phoenix for two spells, with a stint in India in between.

It's quite a varied career for the Toon academy graduate, but he eventually hung up his boots in 2021 before opting for a career in management.

Taylor's first role in management was to take over Gulf United, an Emirati club where he spent two years winning back-to-back promotions before moving on to a new project.

His next job landed him in Dubai, where he took over Palm City FC, aka Al Qabila FC. The job was announced with a pretty obnoxious TikTok video.

Once again, Taylor secured back-to-back promotions with Al Qabila before taking up yet another role in the Middle East.

Five promotions secured in five seasons

Now with Rimal Al-Sahara, another UAE side, where once again, Taylor has led his side to promotion, this time to the UAE Second Division.

That's now five promotions in five seasons in management. While obviously not at the highest level, that's quite a record to have on your CV, and it seems like Taylor is doing it right, working his way up the ladder.

At just 40, it's still very early days in his managerial career. The question is, does he have what it takes to manage in England and will he make it to the dizzy heights of the Premier League? Time will tell.

For now though, congratulations to Steven Taylor and we hope his good fortune continues.
