Four 8.5/10s and a few 7s - Newcastle player ratings from 2-0 win at Spurs

It was a brilliant away day in North London on Saturday, as Matthias Jaissle's Mags beat Tottenham 2-0 to earn our first three points of 2026/27/

Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa scored the goals, securing a well-deserved victory to continue our strong start to the new season.

Here are our marks out of 10 and comments on each player involved.

Starting 11

Hornicek (8) - Made a big early save to deny Tel, stopped Van Hecke's header from a corner, swept up well and looks comfortable with his feet. Rock solid.

Dedic (8.5) - All action, once again. Solid defensively, alive to the danger and never stops running, with his runs down the right giving us a constant outlet. The latter was key to setting up Elanga's opener. Three assists in three games and looks a £29.5m bargain.

Thiaw (7.5) - Made a few key blocks, read the game well and looked comfortable on the ball. Another assured display.

Botman (8) - Has really stepped up in Burn's absence. Was aggressive in his positioning, won his physical duels and defended his box well once again. Back to his best?

Hall (8.5) - Superb. A huge block to deny Porro at 0-0, brilliant one-vs-one, a vital intervention to clear his lines in the second half and kept driving forward down the left.

Gonzalez (8.5) - Such a classy display on his debut. Some stunning diagonal passes, a slick first touch, defensively strong, and that smart, protective screen our back four needed. Looks the real deal, despite just a few days training with the group.

Miley (7.5) - Yet another mature, measured and high-quality display from Miley. He did everything simply but effectively and could form a top partnership with Gonzalez. Passes rarely wasted, positive on the ball and dominant in duels.

Elanga (8.5) - A constant menace down the right and forming a strong partnership with Dedic already. Brilliant finish, full of running, using his pace to great effect and bundles of energy. Two goals in two after blanking in all 32 league outings last season tells a story!

Willock (6.5) - By no means a bad performance, just didn't quite hit the heights of others. Plenty of running and carried the ball well at times, but his final ball let him down at times.

Barnes (7) - Put in a big shift down the left, which sometimes goes unnoticed given we often focus on his finishing alone. Positive, direct and working hard for the team.

Wissa (8.5) - Like Elanga, he looks like a man reborn. Some lovely touches and intelligent link play, drew fouls and ran all day. Lovely improvised finish for his goal, which might just be his first of many in 2026/27.
