German media walk back claims that Nick Woltemade is to leave Newcastle

It has been a strange few days in the world of transfers for Newcastle United with constant speculation over the future of Bruno Guimarães.

However, it's not just the Newcastle captain who was the subject of a few headlines over the weekend, with Newcastle's record signing Nick Woltemade being reported as a player who could leave the Magpies this summer.

A report from German outlet Bavarian Football Works claimed that the 6'6" striker could leave Newcastle on loan this summer after a difficult first season in England.

The idea of a move for the German isn't a new one, with Woltemade having been linked with an exit since the end of last season after his minutes were drastically reduced and he was being played out of position by Eddie Howe.

BFW have admitted their mistake

However, those rumours were nothing more than just that. Nobody at Newcastle United had ever hinted that they were anything other than fully committed to the 24-year-old.

After their initial report of Woltemade potentially leaving Newcastle, Bavarian Football Works have now walked back their claims and are reporting that Woltemade will stay and fight for his place at St James' Park.

Nick Woltemade might not be leaving Newcastle United after all, or he might…it’s chaos, but per Seb Stafford-Bloor of The Athletic, rumours of Woltemade formally being given permission to leave via loan were falsely attributed to his colleague David Ornstein and are untrue.

It wasn't just BFW who got caught up in the misinformation, with Bulinews also reporting that Big Nick had been told he could leave.

Pre-season could be huge for Woltemade

Nick Woltemade returned to Newcastle today to get his pre-season underway, something he was denied last season after moving to Newcastle when the season had already got underway.

We genuinely believe that with a pre-season behind him, he and Eddie Howe can work together to come up with a plan of how to utilise his strengths properly.

It's not a guarantee, but we definitely expect to see a rejuvenated Woltemade next season, although it does look like he's going to have to work to dethrone Will Osula as first-choice striker.
