Harvey Barnes commits future to Newcastle United
Newcastle United have today announced that Harvey Barnes has extended his contract with the club.
Barnes was second in Newcastle's scoring charts last season with 16 goals, just one behind Anthony Gordon, who scored nine of his goals from the spot.
With Gordon now gone, Barnes is likely to be Eddie Howe's first choice out on the left wing even after the arrival of Bazoumana Toure.
Barnes had been linked with Aston Villa earlier in the summer, but he was given assurances of his place in the side, which has now been backed up by the signing of a new 'long-term' contract.

Harvey Barnes had two years remaining on the deal he signed when joining the club from Leicester City in 2023, but the club saw fit to offer him new terms after a good three years on Tyneside.
Speaking to the official website after signing, Barnes talked about how special the club is and that he's delighted to commit his future to Newcastle United.
“It feels great to sign this new contract so early before the new season starts. It’s been an amazing journey so far and I’m delighted to continue that.
“When I first joined the club I quickly learned what a special place it is, but after three years here I know that even more. I love everything about it – the city, the stadium, the people – and I’m really happy extending my time here.
“I’ve had a taste of success in the last few years and enjoyed some really special moments with this team. We all want more of that and I want to be a key player that helps push the club forward.”
Eddie Howe says there's more to come
Eddie Howe was the man who brought Barnes to Newcastle, and he said that the 28-year-old has earned his new contract and that he believes there's more to come.
“Harvey’s new contract is very well deserved and a reflection of the work he’s put in and the quality he’s shown throughout his three years at Newcastle United.
“Harvey is a player who has consistently produced special moments at vital times for the team. He’s calm in front of goal, whether that’s one-on-one or from distance, and is always a threat from wide areas.
“Harvey has vast experience at the highest level but we believe there is still more to come.”
Ross Wilson reacts to Barnes' new deal
Ross Wilson added that the club feels like they've tied Barnes down for his best years.
“Harvey’s record for the club speaks for itself. He managed to reach new heights last season on a personal level and that’s testament to the mentality and professionalism we see on a daily basis.
“We see him as a big part of our plans going forward, and it made total sense to secure his future.
Much like we’ve done with Fabian Schär and Sven Botman in recent months, we’re delighted to extend that experience into what we see as Harvey’s prime years.
“Everybody knows what Harvey is capable of on the pitch his personality off it. Harvey has full focus on the season ahead and I know he wants to make sure he continues to build on everything he has achieved so far at Newcastle.”
