Jacob Murphy lined up by Everton - Keith Downie

Newcastle United aren't done making space in their squad despite a few high-level departures and the potential exit of Bruno Guimarães.

The Magpies have already said goodbye to several first-team stars this summer, with Kieran Trippier, Emil Krafth, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali all having left already, and now it looks as though Bruno Guimarães could follow.

Backup players Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy have also been told they can find new clubs this summer as Newcastle is set to undergo a dramatic squad overhaul.

No bids have come in as yet for Willock or Murphy, but both have their admirers. Crystal Palace have shown interest in Joe Willock, while now it looks like Everton are contemplating a move for Murphy.

No bid yet, but Everton are keen

Jacob Murphy is beloved on Tyneside, but it's more for his personality than his contributions on the pitch, which, while at times have been outstanding, aren't consistent enough for the level Newcastle are aspiring to.

Sky Sports' Keith Downie has taken to X on Saturday to report that Everton are weighing up a move for the 31-year-old as they look to add depth to the their attacking options.

"Excl: Everton are keen on signing Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy.

“The 31-year-old has just 12 months remaining on his #NUFC contract and could leave this summer.

“Murphy signed for Newcastle NINE years ago and has been a brilliant player for the club.

“He is one of a number of players Everton are considering, as they look to strengthen the forward line, including a return for Jack Grealish.

“No #EFC offer for Murphy yet, but interest is there. Newcastle have signed winger Bazou Toure from Hoffenheim, but missed out on Victor Munoz to Liverpool."

Murphy will need to be replaced

While we would certainly be sad to see Murphy go after nine years, we definitely feel it is the right time for him to move on.

However, it's imperative that he is replaced, as only having Anthony Elanga as an option on the right flank will leave Eddie Howe with very few options, especially if the Sweden international can't keep his World Cup form into the club season.

Bazoumana Toure and Harvey Barnes will have the left flank covered; we just need a second option down the right. Whoever that may be.
