Jaissle reacts to Fernandez-Pardo debut and Newcastle 2-2 Bournemouth
Newcastle United maintained their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 season this afternoon, coming back from 2-0 down to draw against bogey team Bournemouth.
It was a messy first half full of misplaced passes, allowing the Cherries to race into a lead, but a Harvey Barnes stunner and an 88th-minute strike from Jacob Ramsey rescued a point.
Matthias Jaissle has been speaking to the press after the game, discussing the game, our comeback and Matias Fernandez-Pardo's first outing in a black and white shirt.
"Quality" Fernandez-Pardo must be managed
Matias Fernandez-Pardo made his Newcastle debut from the bench today, coming on for the final half an hour in a central role.
Our £51m Belgian showed glimpses of real quality, with a few classy touches and bursts of pace to unsettle Bournemouth's back line.
Jaissle has hailed the 21-year-old's quality and potential, but warns that we must manage his load carefully after his lack of pre-season at Lille.
"A lot of quality. It's the reason why we have signed him. He is still young but he's got a lot of potential.
"We need to be careful to manage him well because of the load. He hasn't played for 90 minutes for a long, long time.
"The whole club and fans can enjoy what we can expect from him in the future."
Mixed emotions after 2-2 draw - Jaissle
Speaking to beIN Sports' Andy Kerr after the match, Jaissle felt proud of our comeback but frustrated that we played below our best for much of the 90 minutes.
"Mixed emotions... If you're 2-0 down you can be happy, because it was a great response.
"But if you see the bigger picture we're a bit frustrated not getting the three points at home. If we had performed at our best over 90 minutes, we could've got the three points here, but that's football.
"In general, we are happy with one point, but we see a lot of areas to improve as well."
"We have great characters in the team to respond. We're proud. The mentality and spirit is something we can really build on."
Jaissle also called for patience, insisting we are a new and young team full of talent stepping into new roles.
“We need to be patient. Young lads are stepping into new roles. We are here to encourage them on this path.”
The boss also hailed Harvey Barnes for his superb strike, believing the timing of his strike was a huge moment in the game.
"Typical Harvey move. In a time I couldn't have wished it more. That changed the momentum.
"It's also important after being 2-0 down, that you show straight away the reaction. The goal had a huge impact."
