Jaissle’s selection hint as Newcastle go “all in” for Carabao Cup trip to Everton

Matthias Jaissle has hinted that Newcastle United will go with the strongest line-up possible for tomorrow's Carabao Cup clash with Everton, insisting there won't be many changes for the trip to Merseyside.

With a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs and confidence boosted by Sunday’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, the German has made clear that Newcastle are taking the competition seriously.

Jaissle explains his selection approach

Newcastle could make some changes depending on fitness and recovery, but Jaissle has stressed that his priority remains selecting the strongest possible team.

Not only is he eager to bring silverware back to Tyneside after last year's cup win at Wembley, the boss also sounds keen to deliver for the 8,000 fans making the journey to Merseyside in midweek and build momentum following Sunday's much-needed win at Palace.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday afternoon, he said:

"Due to the history for the club in that competition, I have the same approach - to play with the best possible line-up.

"We are getting huge support again in an away match. It is really special, during the week, that will we have 8,000 fans with us, taking the journey to support us.

"It shows the importance about that competition and we will also be aligned with that and go all in. The fans have huge expectations and they have that taste now with winning the competition."

With this in mind, it will be interesting to see what changes, if any, we see from Sunday, where Jaissle brought in Burn, Schar, Dedic, Murphy and Osula for Thiaw, Botman, Miley, Fernandez-Pardo and Wissa.

Based on his comments above, it may not be a night for rotation or rare starts for summer signings like Bazoumana Toure or Aladji Bamba, with Sean Steur also hoping for more minutes after just five minutes of action in our last three.

Lewis Miley (hamstring) and Matias Fernandez-Pardo (ill) are both doubts, while Elanga and Ramsey will be pushing to start after returning from recent injuries at Palace.

A big chance to build momentum

Not only does tomorrow night offer us a chance to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, it's a big chance to build some genuine momentum after our victory at Crystal Palace.

After a difficult run of results, losing back-to-back games against Coventry and Aston Villa, our 2-0 win in South London was a welcome boost, with Osula and Barnes getting on the scoresheet in a much-improved second-half display.

Now, attention turns to Everton, and our first Premier League test in the cup after wins over West Brom and Millwall in the earlier rounds.

The Toffees are three games without a win since the international break, blanking in recent defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea, but they're rarely an easy nut to crack on home turf, winning to nil in three of their last five at the Hill Dickinson.

So, let's hope we see the alert, aggressive and clinical Newcastle that won comfortably in that second half on Sunday, not the lacklustre version that started slowly against Palace.
