Jamie Carragher picks out Matthias Jaissle - "There's just something about him"

It's been an impressive first month in the job for Newcastle United boss Matthias Jaissle.

The German has made an immediate impact, not only commanding respect from the players, building that feel-good factor, and delivering a brilliant display in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Liverpool, but also showing class, confidence and clear communication during his press conferences.

His early impact and visible aura is now being notice across the mainstream media, as highlighted by last night's comments on MNF.

Carragher impressed by Jaissle

Jamie Carragher has picked out Matthias Jaissle as his manager to watch over the 2026/27 season.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football last night, Carragher said:

“This isn’t even because of yesterday, I’ve just seen a couple of good clips of him in press conferences. He’s only young but he’s got that little twinkle in his eye.

"I think he’ll be a fiery character in the league, and I like that with managers. In a good way, he was a bit sharp and on the front foot with Sturridge and Micah in the post-match interview yesterday.

"There’s just something about him - going to Newcastle, a huge football club, and coaching that performance yesterday too. Again, I think he’s got something about him.”

Jaissle aura clear to see

Carragher is right. Jaissle really does have 'something about him', mixing forward-thinking tactics with authority, confidence, passion and clear communication.

The 38-year-old is seriously impressive in the way he communicates, whether that's interactions with his own players, press conferences or media duties.

The biggest test will be his ability to make this 4-2-3-1 system work in a young, new side now missing Bruno, Tonali and Gordon, but if Sunday's display against Liverpool was anything to go by, we'll be more than alright.
