Jeff Stelling bestows Will Osula with end-of-season honour on talkSPORT

There haven't been many things for Newcastle United fans to shout about this season, and the same can go for the players in terms of individual accolades.

Bruno Guimaraes had his best-ever goal-scoring season, but even he said he'd trade that for a better league finish.

Anthony Gordon, who is still a Newcastle player at the time of writing, had an impressive goal-scoring haul in the Champions League.

That's about it, really, unless you look at the progress Will Osula has made in the final few weeks of the season.

Osula picked out by Stelling as 'future star'

The Danish Under-21 international became Eddie Howe's go-to man to lead the line ahead of £69 million Nick Woltemade and £55 million Yoane Wissa, and kept his spot by actually scoring goals.

That's why talkSPORT host Jeff Stelling opted to bestow Osula with the honour of 'future star' as he and Ally McCoist discussed their end-of-season awards.

"I'm going to go for a man who was overlooked for quite a long time at the club he's at, couldn't get a start, they brought in big-money signing after big-money signing.

"I'm going to go for Will Osula at Newcastle United. He's quick, he's got five (goals) in his last seven, he's only 22, and I think he can go on to even better things."

Alexander Isak was also 'honoured'

McCoist gave the honour to Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha, who burst onto the scene with some outstanding performances this season.

It wasn't all good news for Liverpool, though, as Alexander Isak was dubbed the worst signing of the season. After his £125 million move from Newcastle United, the Sweden striker managed just three Premier League goals during an injury-ravaged season.

We're probably not in a great position to point fingers and laugh given Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa's meagre contributions after we spent £55 million each on them, but we didn't smash the British transfer record on one player, and the way he engineered his exit, we're allowed to take some joy in how things panned out.
