'Lazy' Adidas NUFC goalkeeper kit leaked after JD Sports shipping error

Newcastle United's away kit launch was delayed a few days this week after the sudden passing of Kevin Keegan.

Originally, Newcastle's new away kit was set to launch at 9am on Tuesday, but following the death of Kevin Keegan, the club took the decision to move the launch back to Friday instead, giving fans time to grieve and to pay their respects by leaving tributes at the steps of the South West corner of St James' Park.

While the away kit's design has been leaked online, there hasn't been any reveal of what the accompanying goalkeeper kit looks like, until now. Possibly.

A Scottish football fan has received what he believes to be the goalkeeper kit in error in a shipment from JD Sports.

It looks quite smart even if wholly unoriginal

In a series of posts on X, Jake Weir posted that he ordered the Scotland national team's goalkeeper jersey from JD Sports, but instead received a Newcastle United shirt instead.

The design and colours are practically identical to the Scotland kit he ordered, albeit with a different crest, obviously.

He also posted a photo of the tag on the shirt, which labelled it as the goalkeeper jersey.

"Ordered the Scotland goalie away kit last week off JD sports, I’ve seemed to have received an unreleased Newcastle Utd kit? Any takers?? Looks like a goalie kit lads, another lazy design from a big kit manufacturer it seems."

Adidas doesn't put much effort into GK kit designs

Given the similarities of the two shirts, it's an easy mistake to make. Adidas does tend to recycle goalkeeper jersey designs. Two seasons ago, every club with Adidas as their manufacturer had that same multi coloured design with the triangle pattern on it. There were variations on colour, but the designs were identical, with many sporting the same colours as Newcastle United.

There are reports that Newcastle are releasing a colour-swapped shirt to go along with the away kit that would look quite similar to the goalkeeper kit, and originally we thought that's what he'd been sent until he provided the photo of the tag clearly labelling it as a GK jersey.

We won't have to wait long for confirmation that's what our kit looks like, but with just a couple of days to go, we'd say it's 99.9999% likely to be genuine.
