Leandro Trossard expected to leave Arsenal with Newcastle keen - Report

Newcastle United is expected to be very active in the summer transfer market, which means journalists are going to be extra busy linking us with anyone and everyone.

The transfer window is creeping up on us, and this is when journalists start putting two and two together and coming up with toast.

There are a few positions Newcastle needs to strengthen before the season, one of which is definitely the wingers, especially now that Anthony Gordon has completed his dream move to Barcelona.

The Magpies have been linked with a host of wingers already, with Osasuna star Victor Munoz the current favourite, but a report in The Metro has claimed Newcastle could be tempted to make a move for Belgian star Leandro Trossard.

Leandro Trossard could be sold by Arsenal

Trossard joined Arsenal in 2023 for £27 million and has bagged 35 goals for Mikel Arteta's side in that time, helping them to the Premier League title this season.

It's now expected, though, that Trossard could be in the shop window as Arteta could look to move on up to four members of his title-winning side.

The 31-year-old is still highly regarded, scoring a huge goal in Arsenal’s end of season win at West Ham, and will represent Belgium at the upcoming World Cup.

A 31-year-old won’t replace Gordon

The fact that Newcastle is in the market for a winger is all the justification The Metro needs to link the Magpies with a move for the former Brighton man, and that seems to be the only basis they have for the link.

They've done the same with Aston Villa, who will be looking to replace Jadon Sancho. The report goes into no further detail than that.

This is a clear case of journalists taking shots in the dark, but if they had bothered to do even one iota of research, they'd have ruled Newcastle out straight away. Trossard is way out of the age range Newcastle is looking at for recruitment.

Even if Trossard was available on the cheap, we don't see Newcastle getting involved, with our sights clearly set on younger options from overseas this summer.

Rumour rating: 1/10 - Pure fantasy by The Metro, we reckon.
