Lewis Hall left OUT England’s World Cup squad as Newcastle trio make final 26 - Report
Thomas Tuchel will announce his final England Squad for the World Cup on Friday, with several Newcastle United players hoping to be included.
Newcastle have as many as seven England hopefuls, although there are some with more reason to believe than others.
Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale have both been called up by Tuchel in the lead-up to this squad, but it's highly unlikely either will feature in the squad that will head to North America.
Harvey Barnes always felt like a bit of an outside bet after just being called up for the last squad. While he made a decent impression in his brief time on the pitch, it’s no surprise to see he won’t make the cut.
No seat for Lewis Hall on the plane to North America
Even though the squad announcement isn't until tomorrow, Craig Hope has been active on X this evening relaying news he's heard about the selection, and it's not good news for Newcastle's Lewis Hall.
Dan Burn, Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento are all expected to be in Tuchel's squad, but Hall will miss out if what Hope is hearing is correct.
It's possibly too early to say with any certainty how accurate the information is, but at the same time, we doubt Hope would plaster it all over social media if he wasn't sure.
Burn over Hall is madness
If this does prove to be the case, then we are absolutely baffled. We can't understand how, when left-back is such a problem area for England, Tuchel would leave out arguably the country's best left-back.
Yes, he's young and lacks that big tournament experience, but you just have to look at the comments from pundits all season who have regularly spoken about how Hall should have been nailed on to be England's starting left-back at the tournament.
As much as we love Dan Burn, we find it absolutely insane that he'd go ahead of Hall. Granted, they play different positions, but there are also rumours that Luke Shaw isn't going to be selected, so that leaves Nico O'Reilly at left-back with Tino Livramento or Dan Burn playing out of position as cover?
We're absolutely chuffed Burn is set to go to the World Cup, but the Hall decision has us completely perplexed. All we can think is that Tuchel feels he's too much of an injury risk and that he'll have plenty more opportunities to go to big tournaments in his career.
