Lewis Miley closing in on Newcastle United deal - Report
It's been a rollercoaster few years for Newcastle United sensation Lewis Miley.
Three years on from making his league debut in May 2023, becoming the club's youngest-ever Premier League player at 17 years and 27 days, the Geordie midfielder has had several of ups and downs.
He's scored in the Champions League, been part of our trophy-winning side at Wembley last year and racked up over 50 Premier League appearances, but injuries have also been a problem.
It all started with back issues at the end of the 2023/24 season, followed by a broken metatarsal, 'dead leg' that saw him miss 14 games, and a fractured fibula suffered in training last week.
However, there is good news to share this Monday afternoon, as the Stanley-born star looks set to commit his future to Newcastle.
Newcastle close to Miley breakthrough
Lewis Miley is now close to signing a new long-term contract at Newcastle United, according to The Sun.
They report that Toon chiefs are determined to keep their latest Academy star, after losing Elliot Anderson, and will reward the 20-year-old with a pay rise following his growing importance within Eddie Howe's squad.
It's hoped that his new deal will be announced ahead of his return to action over the summer, with the club confident he will be back for the start of pre-season.
The terms of his new deal are yet to be finalised, but The Sun believe that both parties have indicated a willingness to tie things up and extend his contract beyond 2029.
Versatile Miley has huge future ahead of him
One of the most impressive parts of Lewis Miley's game is his ability to seamlessly slot into different roles.
Not only is he tall, athletic and technically gifted, playing with calmness and maturity well beyond his years, but it's also noticeable just how versatile he's become.
In recent months, we've seen the England Under-21 international fill in at right-back, and operate in any of our three midfield slots, whether it's the deep-plying No 6 role or the right or left-sided No 8 positions Howe employs.
Hopefully, a new deal is followed by a return to training over pre-season and an injury-free 2026/27 as he bids to become a regular in Newcastle's starting 11.
