Lewis Miley injury update ahead of busy week for Newcastle
Lewis Miley is now a doubt for both of Newcastle United’s meetings with Everton this coming week, with the midfielder managing a hamstring issue.
The 20-year-old missed Sunday’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, and Matthias Jaissle has provided an update on his fitness ahead of a busy week in league and cup.
Jaissle provides Lewis Miley injury update
Miley was absent from the matchday squad at Selhurst Park, with Jaissle confirming that the midfielder had been struggling with an issue affecting his hamstring.
The Newcastle head coach is hopeful that he'll be able to return soon, but the early indications suggest he is a doubt for both of our upcoming clashes with Everton on Thursday (Carabao Cup) and Monday night (Premier League).
“Unfortunately, he was not able to be in the squad at Palace due to an issue with his glutes.
"But hopefully, we will bring him back as soon as possible. The medical department is doing a great job.”
Thankfully, we have plenty of midfield options now Jacob Ramsey, Joelinton and Nico Gonzalez are all fit again, with summer signings Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba also waiting in the wing.
Tino Livramento and Jaouen remain out
Miley is not the only Newcastle player facing a spell on the sidelines, with Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen also remaining unavailable.
Livramento’s continued absence, following a knee issue suffered in training, leaves Newcastle without another option at full-back, with Amar Dedic our only fit right-back at present.
Jaouen is also recovering from a hamstring issue picked up while away with France's Under-21s.
Hopefully Miley is back before we know it, as the 20-year-old has already suffered a fair share of injuries in his young career, battling issues with his back, foot and glutes in recent seasons.
