Mason Miley signs first professional contract with Newcastle United

The Miley legacy at Newcastle United continues as Mason Miley has now signed his first professional contract with the club.

Mason Miley will follow in the footsteps of older brothers Jamie and Lewis by coming through the academy at Newcastle United.

There are four Miley brothers in the sport, with the youngest of the siblings, Layton Miley, at Middlesbrough's academy after a brief spell at Sunderland.

Lewis Miley is part of Eddie Howe's first team set-up these days and has been earmarked for big things. Lewis recently signed a new contract with the club, while the eldest, Jamie, left Newcastle to join Hartlepool United on a permanent basis last year.

Mason Miley is hoping to emulate his older brother, Lewis

Newcastle United announced on Friday that Mason Miley, 17, has signed his first professional contract after impressing in the Under 16's before being promoted to the Under-21s. Mason Miley joined the club at the Under-9 level, and now the next stop is the first-team.

Mason told Newcastle's official site that he hopes to emulate his older brothers and break into the first team at his boyhood club.

"Lewis and Jamie have been through it and are both in the professional game. Lewis is in Newcastle's first-team so, hopefully, I can follow in his footsteps in the future.

"My family have been a massive help, making sure we all keep going and they've always tried to get the best out of us.

"To play with Lewis in a Newcastle United shirt for the first-team is one of my ultimate goals. It would be an unreal moment for the family.

"We've been training together during the summer and he has helped me to maintain strong fitness levels and standards, which will help so that I'm ready for when I return for pre-season."

Steve Harper says Miley's rise has been 'brilliant to watch'

Academy director Steve Harper says he is proud of the player Miley is becoming.

“Mason has been part of our Academy for a long time, and his journey to this point has been brilliant to watch. Today is a really proud day for everyone who’s been part of it.

"Signing a professional contract is a big moment for Mason and his family and we’re proud of the player and person he’s becoming. There’s plenty ahead of him, and we’re looking forward to supporting that next stage."

We may not be too far away from seeing the Miley brothers out on the pitch in black and white for Newcastle's first team.
