Matthias Jaissle on “unusual” break and Newcastle’s trip to Coventry

Matthias Jaissle has shared his thoughts ahead of Newcastle United’s return to Premier League action at Coventry City tomorrow night.

After an unusually long international break, Newcastle are preparing to get back to work, with Jaissle keen to see us build on their 2-1 victory over Hull City last time out.

Jaissle welcomes Newcastle return after “unusual” break

Speaking ahead of Monday’s trip to the CBS Arena, the Newcastle boss admitted the extended break was unusual but insisted he and his players are delighted to be back in action.

“I am happy we are back. The long break was a little bit unusual, but we are all happy football is back.

“We want to improve, we want to develop. From tomorrow (Friday) onwards, we will have everyone back with us training and can align ahead of Monday.”

We travel to the Midlands with several key men back in contention, with Nico Gonzalez, Joelinton and Amar Dedic all returning to training.

Jaissle sends warning ahead of Coventry clash

Jaissle was also keen to stress that Newcastle cannot afford to underestimate Coventry, who head into the game full of confidence after beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 before the international break.

Frank Lampard’s side will be hoping to make home advantage count, but the Newcastle boss believes his team can make life difficult for any opponent when performing at their best.

“Every team is capable to win against every opponent. Coventry have the quality.

“They won their last match, they have confidence after winning that game. They will have momentum.

“If we perform at our best, then it will be difficult to beat us. We want to make it as difficult for them as possible.”

Newcastle will need to be switched on from the first whistle, particularly against a Coventry side that will be eager to build on their recent victory.

With the squad gradually getting healthier and more options potentially available, Jaissle will hope his players can return from the break refreshed and ready to deliver another important result.
