Newcastle announce Bayer Leverkusen clash with Sunday’s opponents still to be revealed
Newcastle United have confirmed another pre-season opponent as well as a new look for the 'Sela Weekender'.
For the last few years, Newcastle's front-of-shirt sponsor Sela had put their name to a pre-season weekend competition that saw several matches played at St James' Park to end off the pre-season preparations, dubbed the Sela Weekender.
This year, however, Sela and Newcastle United's partnership has lapsed, and though KNOX Hydrate will be the new front-of-shirt sponsor, as well as the sponsor of the Benton training ground, the club has found a new partner to sponsor the pre-season event.
Visit Malta will put their name to the event, and Bayer Leverkusen will provide the opposition for the Saturday game on 15th August, while Sunday's opponents are yet to be confirmed.
The Visit Malta Weekend will take place on 15th and 16th August
The Bundesliga side will provide a good test for Eddie Howe's men, although given the nature of the weekend, we're not likely to see anything resembling a first-team XI at any point, given there will be two games in two days.
Newcastle United Women will also be in action on Sunday, kicking off at 1pm, and the men's team will be in action again at 4pm, although there is no information on opponents for either side at this point.
Newcastle United have said that details of the Sunday lineup will be announced later this month.
Newcastle's pre-season schedule is almost complete

The decision to remain closer to home this year was taken after recent trips to the USA and Asia, especially given the travelling that our World Cup representatives will already have done by the time they report back to training.
