Newcastle announce triple appointment as David Hopkinson adds to executive team

Newcastle United continues to add to its executive team as David Hopkinson builds his team to help the club achieve ambitious goals.

David Hopkinson told talkSPORT that Newcastle United will be competing at the highest level by 2030, a few months ago.

While that was certainly an ambitious statement and struck the right chord with fans, it doesn't really hold up to scrutiny.

2030 is not too far away and Newcastle are a long way off that level right now, and if anything, the club took a giant step back this season.

Newcastle United announce three new executives

Work continues towards that lofty goal, however, and today the club has announced three new members of the executive team.

Graeme Johnson was reported to be joining a while ago, and that has now been confirmed. The chief people officer is being joined by former FIFA executive Dave O’Connor as Chief Revenue Officer later this month. Meanwhile, global brand and marketing strategist Steven Taylor will take up the role of Chief Marketing Officer on 1st July.

As confirmed via the official website, they add to the club’s nine-strong executive leadership team, which includes David Hopkinson (CEO), Simon Capper (CFO), Brad Miller (COO), Ross Wilson (Sporting Director) and other senior executives from across the club's key functions.

David Hopkinson spoke about the appointments

David Hopkinson has spoken about the appointments to the official site to give an insight into what the trio will bring to the club.

“Graeme, Dave and Steven each bring proven leadership and deep expertise in their respective fields, and I’m truly delighted to welcome them to Newcastle United.

“In the near term, their focus will be on strengthening our organisational capability – embedding a high-performance culture, sharpening our global brand, and accelerating key revenue streams.

“Over the longer term, these appointments are about building the foundations of a world-class organisation. By investing in people, brand and commercial growth, we are positioning the club for sustainable success and ensuring we can compete consistently at the highest level on and off the pitch.”
