Newcastle baffled by Bruno Guimaraes claims as Arsenal games continue

Something very fishy is going on with the Bruno Guimarães situation at Newcastle United as stories persist regarding a move to Arsenal.

There have been plenty of stories this summer already suggesting that Bruno Guimarães was pushing through a move to Arsenal and that the Gunners had made bids for the Brazilian.

As these stories gathered pace, journalists with actual contacts within Newcastle United were insisting that no club-to-club talks had taken place. Sky Sports' Keith Downie claimed that his sources at the club were 'baffled and bewildered' at all the talk surrounding Guimarães.

Bruno has spoken to officials at Newcastle and intimated that he'd be open to a move if, and only if, the terms suited Newcastle, but there has still been no approach from Arsenal.

Another Arsenal claim has been shot down by NUFC

On Tuesday, a report from The Times claimed that Arsenal has opened talks with Bruno Guimarães as they are expecting a £70m boost to their income via a new sponsorship agreement.

However, it didn't take long for that story to be shot down as Luke Edwards posted on X that Newcastle are once again baffled by the latest claims and that Arsenal have still not approached the club with anything resembling an offer and nor would they even entertain one at this point.

"BREAKING Senior sources at Newcastle United are mystified by claims Arsenal have opened club to club talks over the signing of Bruno Guimaraes. They’ve not heard from anyone involved about a potential deal for more than a week.

"Newcastle’s stance remains the same and they will not lower their valuation.

"They do not welcome a bid and will inform Arsenal of their stance if they try to open club to club talks. They may well try to do so but nothing has changed at 1214 on Tuesday #nufc #arsenal"

Anything can happen 

It's always worth noting that anything Luke Edwards posts regarding this comes with the warning that he was one of the loudest voices last year insisting that Alexander Isak would not leave the club, but at least this time, the messaging to those with genuine club contacts is consistent.

Newcastle do not want to sell their club captain, and were they to do so, it would certainly not be on the buying club's terms. They will demand top dollar, over the odds, a monumental fee for someone of Bruno's importance.

Anything can happen between now and deadline day, of course, but as of now, Newcastle's stance is very clear. Bruno Guimarães is going nowhere. Someone, somewhere is working very hard to unsettle Guimarães and Newcastle United. They may well be working on behalf of the 28-year-old, trying to soften Newcastle up, but it doesn't appear to be working.

A statement from Bruno himself certainly wouldn't go amiss right about now, though, just to help us all feel better, because the more this keeps happening, the clearer it is that his new super agent is pulling all the strings.
