Newcastle contacted by Jonathan David’s camp - Report
Jonathan David was heavily linked with Newcastle United before he made his move to Juventus last summer.
In May last year, the Canadian striker had announced that when his contract at Lille was up, he'd be leaving, which sparked a huge scramble for his signature.
Newcastle were already sniffing around before he'd announced his decision to leave, and were seen as genuine contenders for his signature for a while.
However, despite plenty of interest from the Premier League, David opted to move to Serie A with Juventus. But, like so many strikers who moved to new clubs last year, it didn't all go according to plan, and David managed just six goals for the Italian side.
Juventus' players were recently booed by their own supporters after losing to Fiorentina at home, leaving them needing a win and other results to go their way on the final day of the season to qualify for the Champions League.
Newcastle have been made aware of Jonathan David's availability
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Juventus are looking to switch things up with their forward line for next season, and it could be Jonathan David who is moved on.
The report claims that David's representatives have already reached out to several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle, to alert them of the 26-year-old's availability. Aston Villa, Leeds United, Brighton and Crystal Palace are the other clubs mentioned as potential destinations.
It's likely to be a loan move, at least initially, after he signed a five-year deal with the Turin side when he joined last summer.
We love the idea but...
Newcastle could certainly do with another option up front next season, as there are no guarantees that Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade will pick up their form after a difficult first season at Newcastle.
A loan move for Jonathan David would make perfect sense, too. It gives us a top-class striker with minimal at a much-reduced cost.
Jonathan David may not have had the best of seasons in Italy, but we still remain huge fans of his, and we really wanted him to join us instead of Juventus, so the idea of this does excite us.
Rumour Rating: 4/10 - Here lies the problem. TEAMtalk aren't the most reliable of sources, and even if it were true, do we really think Jonathan David would choose Newcastle when Europa League champions Aston Villa is a possibility?
