Newcastle face fight to sign Zadok Yohanna as Chelsea join race - Sky Germany
It wouldn't be transfer season without a certain Premier League club trying to sign every player any other club dares to look at.
We are, of course, talking about Chelsea, who have now reportedly entered the race for 18-year-old winger Zadok Yohanna.
Newcastle have been credited with serious interest in the AIK winger who has already reportedly agreed terms with Brighton.
The Magpies feel they can hijack the deal and have gone to the club before going to the player, whereas Brighton agreed terms with Yohanna before agreeing a fee with AIK.
Chelsea have entered the race
Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg ran the story about Newcastle's growing interest and said that things could move quickly.
Well, they certainly have, as just hours after his initial update, Plettenberg took to X to claim that Chelsea has now entered the race.
Newcastle remain in the driving seat as far as AIK is concerned, though, as Plettenberg claims the Magpies have the best offer on the table as things stand, rumoured to be £20.7m.
"Understand Chelsea have now also entered the race for Zadok Yohanna. Newcastle’s proposal is currently understood to be the highest.
“Brighton, however, are still hoping to secure the player’s commitment. Verbal agreement 100 % done."
Newcastle may have the best offer, but Yohanna may get the final say
Thankfully, Chelsea's record of buying young talent and actually doing anything with them is getting increasingly worse, so we hope that youngsters are less inclined to fall for their sales pitch and will instead look to move elsewhere.
Having said that, Newcastle's record in that department isn't exactly glowing either. Brighton, meanwhile, have proven themselves to be a good pathway to the top; ironically, a lot of their players do end up at Chelsea.
It looks like it could be a battle between Brighton and Newcastle, which in turn is a battle between AIK and Yohanna. If Brighton match Newcastle's bid, then we may miss out.
