Newcastle interested in Donyell Malen after impressive Roma loan - Report
It seems inevitable that Newcastle United are going to have to replace Anthony Gordon in the summer as the forward looks destined to leave St James' Park.
Anthony Gordon is being heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle at the end of the season, with Bayern Munich now making solid moves to sign the England international.
Should they fail, however, Barcelona, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have all shown solid interest in the 25-year-old, so we'd say Newcastle's chances of keeping hold of Gordon are very slim.
Replacing him will not be easy. His versatility to play anywhere across the front three and his blistering pace make him a tough act to follow, but reports in Italy believe the Magpies have their eye on one possibility.
Newcastle eyeing Donyell Malen?
Aston Villa's Donyell Malen didn't really live up to expectations at Villa Park, but he has since gone on loan to AS Roma, where he has fared much better. As a result, he's caught the eye of several clubs who are keen to hijack the Dutchman's potential permanent switch to Roma.
According to Corriere Dello Sport, Newcastle are joined by Barcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea in their interest in the 27-year-old forward.
Their report claims that the aforementioned clubs are willing to pay £50 million to Aston Villa for his signature, even though Roma will only need to pay £25 million to make his move permanent in the summer.
All signs point towards him becoming a Roma player; however, as the Italian side has really taken to him after he scored 11 goals in 15 Serie A games this season. Aston Villa are expected to honour the agreement too and reject other bids.
It's a big no from us
This one is dead before it even starts. There's no way we see Newcastle forking out £50 million for a player in the summer, especially not one over the age of 25.
Newcastle's transfer approach will be bringing in low-cost players with plenty of potential rather than spending small fortunes on 'established' players.
The fact that Malen didn't really hit the heights he's capable of in the Premier League with Villa suggests he may not be a Premier League player anyway, so we're best off avoiding this one.
Rumour Rating: 1/10 - The move to Roma looks nailed on. We'd be mental to spend twice as much on a player just to try and get him to come to us. His Premier League record wasn't great. None of this adds up. He may have cropped up in conversation, but that'll be about it.
