Newcastle offered Woltemade plus cash for Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha - Report

According to reports in Germany, Newcastle sent a Nick Woltemade-plus-cash offer to Borussia Dortmund on deadline day.

As we know, the German ended up sealing a loan switch to Juventus on Tuesday, joining the Serie A giants for the 2026/27 season.

A £3.5m loan fee was agreed and no option or obligation to buy was included in the deal, with Juve paying the striker's wages in full.

But, if reports in Germany are to be believed, Newcastle made a late play to offload Woltemade permanently, in exchange for a long-term target. 

Newcastle made late Nmecha move?

German outlet SportBILD are reporting that Newcastle included Nick Woltemade in a player-plus-cash bid for Felix Nmecha on deadline day.

Newcastle have shown interest in the Borussia Dortmund midfielder for some time, with our admiration dating back to his time with Wolfsburg.

SportBILD claim we made a ‘concrete inquiry’ for the 25-year-old over the summer and came back again on Tuesday.

However, despite a ‘multi-million-euro cash payment’ offered on top of Woltemade to land Nmecha, Dortmund had no interest in losing the 6ft 3" midfielder.

It's not clear how much money Newcastle offered as part of the package, although it appeared to be a non-starter based on Nmecha's importance to Niko Kovac's side.

Dortmund were linked with a loan move for Woltemade just last month, with Napoli also holding talks prior to Big Nick's switch to Turin.

Jaissle backs Big Nick to shine

Speaking in his press conference since deadline day, Matthias Jaissle spoke highly of Woltemade's quality and character following his loan move to Italy.

The boss is backing Big Nick to score goals in Serie A, insisting he and club staff will monitor his progress closely ahead of his return next summer.

“I really, really appreciate Nick as a player but also as a human being. He has quality both on and off the pitch.

"We have had really honest discussions but he has taken another challenge in a top league with a top club. 

"We will be watching him closely, I’m really curious as to how he will get on. He is still our player. We will stay in close contact.

"“I wrote to him yesterday that I cross my fingers he will get the minutes he deserves and performs there. I’m optimistic he will shine at Juventus and score a lot of goals.”
