Newcastle set to appoint Wesley Awad - Report
Newcastle United continues to build up its recruitment team as the club looks set to make another big appointment.
Recently, Newcastle United appointed Scott Mitchell to work under the head of youth recruitment, Paul Midgley, and he was closely followed by the arrival of James Fowler, who will undertake a similar role focusing on European scouting.
We've seen a lot of names crop up due to the club's scouting efforts in South America, too. It definitely feels like Newcastle's scouting network is at full tilt of late.
There are no signs of it slowing down either, as Craig Hope has reported on X that the Magpies are due to make another key appointment.
Wesley Awad is Newcastle-bound
It’s believed that former England, Crystal Palace and Birmingham City man, Wesley Awad, will also be joining academy chief Paul Midgley's recruitment team.
Hope also reports that he could be followed by seven European scouts, all falling under our push to improve academy recruitment over the comings years.
"Newcastle set to appoint Wesley Awad as head of youth recruitment
"Ex England, Crystal Palace & Birmingham. Will work under Paul Midgley
"Comes as NUFC make big academy recruitment push. Seven Euro scouts to arrive"
The future is looking bright
Details are a bit thin on the ground at the moment, so we don't know exactly what Awad's role will be or where the new European scouts will be deployed, but these moves can only be seen as a good thing.
Getting out there and identifying new talent is one thing; actually bringing them to the club is another. We've already managed to snap up young Ecuadorian talent Johan Martinez, who will join the club next year when he turns 18, but we need to see how many more of these young talents we can convince to come to Tyneside.
With Shola Ameobi being moved on from his role as loan manager, we will hopefully have a more robust system in place for player development too. No more sending our young prospects to play in the third tier of the Kazakhstan league.
