Newcastle set to take Omar Marong and Alieu Saine on trial

Newcastle United are continuing their search for emerging talent across the globe, with two promising young Gambian players set to get the opportunity to impress at the club.

Omar Marong and Alieu Saine are both expected to join Newcastle on trial after catching the eye during Gambia’s recent success at an international youth tournament.

Newcastle target two promising Gambians

Marong and Saine were part of the Gambia Under-17 side that triumphed at the U17 UFOA Zone A tournament in West Africa.

Their performances during the competition have now earned them the opportunity to showcase their abilities at Newcastle, as the club continues to monitor exciting prospects from different parts of the world.

A successful trial could potentially open the door to a longer-term opportunity at the club, where fellow Gambian Yankuba Minteh was briefly following his move from Danish side Odense.

Newcastle’s global recruitment search continues

The potential trials underline Newcastle’s continued efforts to identify young talent beyond the traditional European scouting markets, with a recent job advert highlighting our search for talent in Africa.

Our recruitment work is not limited to the senior squad, with the club also looking to strengthen its academy pathway and bring promising youngsters into the system.

Gambia’s recent tournament success has put Marong and Saine on Newcastle’s radar, and the pair will now have the chance to make an impression.

It remains to be seen whether either player earns a longer-term opportunity on Tyneside, but their upcoming trials represent another interesting development in Newcastle’s search for talent around the world.
