Newcastle submit £10m bid for Viery - Report
Newcastle United are starting to step up its transfer activity now that the season has ended.
The Magpies have plenty of positions to strengthen in the summer, and that's before any players are sold. It's going to be a busy summer for Ross Wilson and co.
Newcastle have been linked with plenty of players in recent weeks and months, and it's now time to start turning those scouting missions into proposals, which is exactly what they're doing, according to Brazilian journalist Fabio Vargas.
Gremio defender Viery has been watched several times by Newcastle this season after the 21-year-old broke into the first team.
Newcastle have made the first move for Viery
In March, it was reported that Newcastle had made contact over Viery, and now Fabio Vargas has taken to X to claim that the Magpies have made an offer for the young defender.
According to Vargas, Newcastle have made a proposal of £10.3 million, but it's well below what Gremio value the youngster.
"Official Proposal: Newcastle from England has officially expressed interest in Viery, the Premier League giant had made an inquiry and now it's an official proposal.
"Proposal in the range of €12 million euros. Grêmio is asking for between €20 to 25 million euros to negotiate the defender"
It's looking good
Viery has a release clause of £43 million, but Gremio are only asking between £17-21 million. It's thought Newcastle are the first club to make a move for Viery, so if they act quickly, they may be able to get a deal done before anyone else comes to the table.
The Brazilian is predominantly a centre-back but can play at left-back, a bit like Dan Burn, but young and Brazilian.
It's always exciting being linked with young Brazilian players, especially ones who are so highly regarded, but bursting into the Gremio starting lineup and being able to hold your own in the Premier League are very different propositions, so if this move does happen, we shouldn't expect an immediate impact.
Rumour Rating: 8/10 - Newcastle's South American scouting suggests there's plenty of truth to this. We've been tracking him for a while. It's very likely there's some truth to this one. Still some work to be done, but it's looking promising.
