Newcastle travel to see Galatasaray star Gabriel Sara - Report
Newcastle United are undertaking a different approach to transfers this summer following last year's disaster.
The Magpies spent £250 million last summer and brought in six new players, only one of which can really be deemed a success, and even Malick Thiaw is showing cracks in his game of late.
That's not us saying that last year's signings can't or won't come good, but we really needed more from them out of this campaign.
After years of banking on Premier League-proven players, Newcastle have switched tack and are now looking to find hidden gems around the world who may not be as well known but have the skills to be successful in the English game.
Newcastle want ex-Norwich star Gabriel Sara
The latest player to catch their eye is Galatasaray's Gabriel Sara, who actually had a spell in England with Norwich City before moving to Turkey.
Turkish outlet Sporx has reported that Newcastle and Aston Villa have dispatched scouts to watch the 26-year-old midfielder in action this week.
Galatasaray have already said that they will not entertain offers for Gabriel Sara of under €30 million (£26 million), so at least we have an idea of what he could cost.
Gabriel Sara has managed six goals and five assists in 42 appearances in all competitions this season, including a goal and assist in the Champions League.
There's plenty of competition for Gabriel Sara
Sunderland, Fulham and Leeds have all been linked with the Brazilian recently, too, so interest is definitely building.
He looks like he could be a cost-effective option to bulk out the midfield for Newcastle in the summer. He's obviously well-suited to the English game with so many Premier League sides showing an interest, plus his two years in the Championship with Norwich means he's already experienced the physicality of the English game.
Rumour Rating: 6/10 - He fits the profile of what Newcastle are looking for; it sounds like there's plenty of interest from the Premier League. We're just concerned that the rumours are only coming from the Turkish side so far. One to watch.
