Newcastle United confirm exit of Antonio Cordero on season-long loan
Newcastle United have confirmed that Spanish winger Antonio Cordero has re-joined Cadiz on loan.
Last summer, Newcastle beat the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona to the signing of Spanish sensation Antonio Cordero from Segunda Division side Malaga.
The talented winger had been starring for Malaga and Spain's Under-19s side and was attracting interest from several top clubs, but he chose to join Newcastle.
As part of his development, Cordero was sent out on loan, initially to Belgium with KVC Westerlo, but when it was clear he wasn't getting the minutes Newcastle were hoping for, they pulled the plug on the deal, and he returned to Spain with Segunda Division side Cadiz.
Cadiz will keep hold of Antonio Cordero
The 19-year-old obviously made an impression there, playing 21 times and scoring three goals. As a result, Cadiz has come back to Newcastle to ask if they can keep him for another season.
On Saturday morning, Newcastle confirmed via social media and the official website that Antonio Cordero will remain with Cadiz for next season.
"Best of luck, Antonio 👊
"Antonio Cordero will rejoin Cádiz CF on loan for the 2026/27 season."
We need a better challenge for Cordero next season
Another good season in the Spanish second division will keep his confidence up, but we hope that next season we find a club playing at a higher level for him to go to so he can be properly tested.
That's if Eddie Howe doesn't feel he's ready for Newcaslte's first team, of course, especially given the club's new focus on young players.
We'd hate for Cordero to become the latest player with a tonne of hype behind them to fade into obscurity like Garang Kuol.
