Antonio Cordero set for loan move away from Newcastle United - Report
Last summer, Newcastle United managed to beat Barcelona and Real Madrid to the signing of highly-rated youngster Antonio Cordero.
The Spanish teenager was highly sought after, but it was Newcastle United who managed to secure the former Malaga player's services.
While Cordero was very highly rated, he was brought in for a spell in the development squad and was always likely to spend his first season out on loan.
For some baffling reason, Cordero was sent to the Belgian Pro League with KVC Westerlo, much to the disappointment of Malaga, who were hoping to agree a deal to keep him on loan for another season.
Newcastle's loans need work
The loan spell at Westerlo was a disaster, with Cordero only playing 102 minutes during his time there. The loan was cut short in January and he returned to Spain to link up with Segunda Division side Cadiz.
Things went better for the 19-year-old back in Spain, where he made 21 appearances for Cadiz, getting on the scoresheet three times.
Things went so well that Cadiz is hoping to keep Cordero for the upcoming season, too, with Spanish outlet Marca claiming that the deal will indeed happen.
Should Cordero be making a step up?
Another loan makes sense for Cordero, although we're disappointed that he will remain in the Spanish second division rather than making a step up to get more experience playing at a higher level.
Of course, had he gone to a La Liga side or to another top division in Europe, we would have run the risk of him not getting the minutes to develop anyway.
Hopefully, Cordero will get plenty of game time at Cadiz, and he'll return to Newcastle next year ready to stake a claim for a place in the first team.
