Newcastle United tease away shirt launch and confirm release date
As expected, Newcastle United have confirmed that Tuesday will see the launch of the new Adidas away shirt.
After a picture of the shop window display with Tuesday's date on it started doing the rounds on social media on Thursday, it was widely speculated that it would be the date for the launch of the new away kit.
With the display going up, it only seemed sensible that the club would confirm something today.
We were hoping for an official look at the new kit after having to make do with leaks online, but we weren't so fortunate.
Get your hands in your wallets on Tuesday morning
Instead, the club posted a short video teaser on social media showing several slhouetted figures running across a beach before showing the retro, late 70's/early 80's Newcastle crest and the Adidas trefoil logo in white, which is what we expect to see on the shirt based on leaks.
The accompanying text on the post confirms the release date to be Tuesday.
"9am | 21st July
"@adidasfootball"Sign up to be the first to hear about our 26/27 Away Kit Launch and for a chance to win a signed 26/27 away shirt đ"
How will the first-day sales compare to the home kit launch?
It'll be interesting to see if the launch of this kit on Tuesday is more successful than the dismal launch of the home shirt, which was quite pitiful when compared to previous shirt launches.
The 'barcode' design wasn't very popular with fans, and the lack of a shirt sponsor at launch certainly didn't help matters. Plenty of people saw the potential to have a sponsorless shirt to keep as a bit of a collector's piece, though.
The away shirt with its retro badging and blue and white design looks stunning, so we're expecting it to be far more popular.
