Nick Woltemade scores and assists in man of the match display for Juventus
Nick Woltemade scored again and provided an assist as Juventus were held to a 2-2 draw by Rennes in the Europa League last night.
The Newcastle loanee was named man of the match, with his equaliser making it three goals in three European appearances for the Italian club.
Woltemade involved in both Juventus goals
Starting alongside Randal Kolo Muani for the first time, Woltemade needed just five minutes to make an impact. His well-timed pass released Zeki Çelik behind the Rennes defence, allowing the defender to put Juventus ahead.
Mousa Al-Tamari equalised ten minutes later before Boulaye Dia's penalty gave the visitors a 2-1 half-time lead.
Woltemade brought Juventus level in the 67th minute, sending his penalty straight down the middle after Bryan Reynolds had handled a Nico Gonzalez header.
He then threatened a winner with two headers in quick succession, the first deflected away and the second going wide from the resulting corner. Juventus did find the net through Jhon Lucumi in the 88th minute, only for VAR to rule it out for offside.
The draw ended Juventus' perfect start to the competition, leaving them with seven points from three games.
Still waiting for a Serie A start
Woltemade's latest goal follows a penalty against NEC Nijmegen and his volley in last week's win at Celta Vigo.
Yet, as we noted ahead of last night's game, all five of his Serie A appearances have come from the bench.
With Juventus beaten 3-0 at home by Lazio on Sunday, there's a fairly obvious case for giving Big Nick a league start.
And if our own attacking woes carry on much longer, we might be on the phone to Juventus trying to negotiate an early release...
