Nico Gonzalez raves about Matthias Jaissle after £50m move from Man City

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Matthias Jaissle was asked about the sales pitch he gave Nico Gonzalez before his £50m move from Man City.

Jaissle's response offered some insight, discussing his style of play and our 'brave' plans for the future, although he believes this 'special club' sells itself in so many ways.

During his pre-Spurs press conference, the boss said: "I don't need to sell a lot, with that fan base, with that history. This is a special club. We have a clear idea of how we want to play football, and we are brave in our approach towards the future. I think these influenced him in a positive way, so he was convinced to join us."

However, while Jaissle has tried to play down his role in attracting the Spaniard, Nico himself has spoken so highly of his new manager.

Nico: Jaissle made me feel special

Nico Gonzalez has hailed the impact of Matthias Jaissle following his £50m move to Newcastle United.

The 24-year-old reveals that the German made him feel more important than any other manager he's ever worked under, immediately feeling both trusted and appreciated as a player.

"He made me know that I was very important for him. To be honest this is my fifth club and this is the first time anyone has made me feel like this.

"I haven't played yet, but I feel so much trust from the coach and the club, this was something that was really important for me.

"I was impressed. The first time he talked to me I was like, ok they really want me, they really appreciate me and want me to come."

Nico will feel the love at Newcastle

When stepping out onto the pitch on Wednesday, our new no.6 was met with his first Geordie welcome.

Chants of 'NICO, NICO, NICO' immediately swirled around St James' Park, and he was visibly warmed by the initial wave of support, shaking his head in disbelief.

At Man City, he wasn't a regular starter. He was in Rodri's shadow, frustrated by his lack of starts, and never the player Man City fans would chant the name of.

At Newcastle, it feels clear from the get-go that all of that changes. Our star summer signing, a key player under Jaissle, our no.6 and soon to get his very own chant, of that there is no doubt!
