Nico Gonzalez to Newcastle now fully agreed - Full details and medical plans

After yesterday's promising update from Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United now have a full agreement in place to sign Nico Gonzalez.

On Monday afternoon, Romano reported that a verbal agreement was in place between Newcastle and Man City.

He also claimed that the player himself had given the green light to a deal, signalling his wish to join the Matthias Jaissle era on Tyneside.

But now, on Tuesday afternoon, confirmation of a full agreement and medical plans has emerged from multiple local and national UK reporters 

Nico set for Newcastle medical 

Sky Sports' Keith Downie has revealed that Nico Gonzalez is travelling to Newcastle TODAY to undergo his medical.

The North East reporter reveals that a total agreement between Man City and Newcastle was reached this morning, with the fee set to be an initial £47m plus a further £3m in potential add-ons.

The 24-year-old said goodbye to his Man City teammates earlier and looks set to seal a permanent move to St James' Park over the next 24 hours, becoming our seventh signing of the summer.

He won't be signed in time to make tomorrow's Carabao Cup clash with West Brom, but will be eligible for Saturday's trip to Spurs, provided his medical goes smoothly. 

David Ornstein has also confirmed a deal is all agreed in an update for The Athletic, claiming it's an initial £48m plus a further £4m in add-ons. 

Midfield depth now impressive at United

If someone said we'd lose Bruno and Tonali, yet still come into the 2026/27 season with a strong set of midfield options, I'd have been both surprised and impressed.

With Nico now all set to sign, we have the classy Spaniard, alongside young trio Lewis Miley, Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba, with Joelinton and Jacob Ramsey also in the mix, alongside Sunday's goal hero Joe Willock.

Willock may depart for Besiktas, but that's a real mixture of profiles; youth, experience, technical ability and physicality.
