Odysseas Vlachodimos handed Sevilla hope after La Liga loan spell - Report

Newcastle United goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos spent the last season on loan at La Liga side Sevilla.

Both the club and the player want the move to become permanent, but Newcastle's £10 million asking price is currently out of Sevilla's financial range.

A new loan hasn't been ruled out, but Newcastle would prefer to clear this mistake off their books for good.

Odysseas Vlachodimos was a £20m acquisition as part of the deal that took Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest, as both clubs made desperate bids to avoid PSR sanctions. While Forest got a future England star who is currently the subject of a £121m bid from Manchester City, Newcastle got a goalkeeper who has made just one competitive appearance.

Sevilla are holding on to hope

There's clearly no future for Vlachodimos at Newcastle, and it would certainly be in everyone's best interest if an agreement could be reached with Sevilla.

What's telling right now is that the Spanish side, according to La Razon, have not said an official goodbye to the 32-year-old despite having done so for other loan signings returning to their parent clubs.

It suggests that Sevilla aren't ready to give up on sealing a deal for the Greek international.

Free Vlachodimos!

Whether it's another loan or a permanent move at a bargain price, it makes sense for Newcastle just to cut their losses and let this one go.

The club is never going to get its money back, and even though taking financial hits in this current climate is not the best idea, neither is hanging on to a player who has no future at the club.

We're still paying his wages, so he's going to cost us money either way. We feel sorry for the lad, to be honest. Just let him go.
