Steve Nickson could join Wrexham, not West Ham - Report
Steve Nickson is still set to leave Newcastle United this summer, but where he ends up is not a foregone conclusion.
It was believed that Nickson was heading to London to join West Ham United as the head of recruitment at the London Stadium.
Under Ross Wilson, Nickson's role has been somewhat diminished at Newcastle, so he is moving on to better things.
It was understood that Nickson would be given a much wider scope and more influence at West Ham, which was what attracted him to make the switch.
Steve Nickson may not be heading to London
However, now Craig Hope has reported via X that the 61-year-old may not be London-bound after all.
He is still heading to the Championship, it seems, with Wrexham now contending for his signature.
"EXC: Steve Nickson to West Ham is not a done deal. Sources say Wrexham also interested & that could yet be where Nickson ends up
"Recruitment chief is leaving Newcastle after 15 years"
Best of luck to Steve Nickson
Having 15 years of service to one club in any capacity is impressive these days, but we can't blame the man for wanting to move on if his role has been significantly cut.
It was telling when the news was announced, and it was reported how many transfers have been done recently without his input, given that the last transfer he had any significant sway over was Sven Botman.
Wherever Nickson ends up, we wish him the best, but is it perhaps a bit telling that he's stepping into the Championship rather than another Premier League club?
