Two dilemmas for Matthias Jaissle as Newcastle head to Coventry

Matthias Jaissle has some big selection decisions to make as Newcastle United return to Premier League action against Coventry City on Monday night.

With several players returning from injury, the boss must decide whether to stick with those who impressed in the 2-1 win over Hull or bring some of his returning stars straight back into the starting XI.

Miley or Dedic at right-back?

Lewis Miley impressed at right-back against Hull City, but Amar Dedic should available again after recovering from a hamstring injury, giving Jaissle a decision to make.

Miley offered composure, added height and versatility in an unfamiliar position, making a strong case to keep his place. However, Dedic is a natural right-back and has made a superb to life on Tyneside, delivering three assists already this season.

Does Jaissle reward Miley’s performance against Hull and stick with the same back four, or bring Dedic straight back into the side?

Steur, Gonzalez…or both?

Sean Steur also impressed against Hull, but Nico Gonzalez is back in contention after recovering from concussion, creating another difficult decision for Jaissle.

Steur showed maturity and quality alongside Joe Willock, while Gonzalez could offer greater physicality and defensive protection in the deeper midfield role; something we missed at Leeds when  went  our last Premier League away game.

Joelinton has also returned to training and is expected to be in the squad, but after missing the entire season so far through injury, it would be a surprise to see him thrown straight into the starting XI.

There is also the possibility of Steur and Gonzalez starting together, allowing Willock to move into the No.10 role and Yoane Wissa to lead the line.

But that raises another question: where does Matias Fernandez-Pardo fit in? The Belgian has shown some early promise and plenty of energy, but is still adapting to English football in a central striker role, and could find himself among the substitutes if Jaissle opts to accommodate both Steur and Gonzalez.
