Victor Munoz snubs Newcastle for Liverpool - Fabrizio Romano

Here we go again! Newcastle United is to miss out on Victor Munoz as a Premier League rival hijacks the deal.

After selling Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £70 million, Newcastle acted extremely quickly in finding a replacement for the England winger.

Osasuna's Victor Munoz had been on the Magpies' radar for a while, and once Gordon was sold, things started to move pretty quickly for the 22-year-old with the player said to be keen on the move to Newcastle.

The clubs eventually agreed a fee, believed to be close to the €40m release clause in Munoz's contract, and the final hurdle was clearing the move with Real Madrid, who own 50% of his rights.

Real Madrid sanctioned the sale and were even reported to have inserted a buy-back option in the deal, which would allow them to buy Munoz in 12 months' time if they felt he'd reached his potential.

Liverpool hijack Newcastle's transfer ... again

On Wednesday night, however, Fabrizio Romano reported on X that Munoz was heading to the Premier League, even giving it his trademark "Here we go" seal of approval, but Munoz doesn't appear to be heading to Newcastle anymore.

According to Romano, Liverpool have hijacked Newcastle's deal and are set to snap up the Spain winger. It's Hugo Ekitike all over again.

EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool are set to sign Víctor Muñoz with HIJACK done, HERE WE GO! Newcastle in advanced talks for days but #LFC enter the deal, verbally agree terms with Muñoz and activate €40m release clause. All set to be signed and another big surpise.

So much for learning our lessons, eh?

How have we let this happen? What is going on at our club? It was right there, signed, sealed and about to be delivered and then Liverpool, the ultimate porch pirates, come and steal it off our front step.

For all the talk about lessons needing to be learned from last year's mess of a transfer window, it looks like we've learned precisely nothing.

We absolutely understand that Liverpool is a bigger draw than Newcastle for a lot of players, but how was Liverpool afforded the time to do this? We should have had Munoz through the door by now.

It's not so much that we aren't signing Victor Munoz, because we'd be lying if we said we knew enough about him to know whether or not he's worth all the hype. It's simply the principle of the thing. We're back to paving the way for the 'Big Six' again like we did last summer.

The transfer window is four days old, and I'm sick of it already!
