WATCH: Anthony Gordon spotted en-route to Barcelona to seal £70m move

Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon is on his way to Spain to finalise his move to Barcelona.

Barcelona came out of nowhere on Wednesday to install themselves as favourites to land the England winger, and just hours later, the Magpies had accepted the Spanish champions' offer.

A deal expected to land Newcastle up to £70 million was agreed, and it was reported that Gordon would fly out to Spain on Thursday to get the deal done before he jets off to Florida to join up with the England squad ahead of the World Cup.

Gordon's exit isn't a surprise, but for weeks it looked like his destination would be Bayern Munich, but the German side refused to meet Newcastle's demands, whereas Barcelona were keen to conclude business in a rapid fashion, just as Newcastle wanted.

Gordon is on his way to Spain

Some reports suggested that Gordon flew out to Spain on Wednesday night, but Sky Sports' Keith Downie captured footage of Gordon boarding a private plane on Thursday.

As Downie reports on X, Gordon is set to undergo his medical today ahead of finalising his £70 million move.

Gordon was joined by his representative Alan Dugdale, who was key in getting the deal done, and the 25-year-old is expected to sign a five-year deal.

Who's next?

It's going to be interesting to see who follows Anthony Gordon out of the door this summer, as a squad shakeup is expected. 

We don't expect there to be a mass exodus, but there are certainly one or two candidates who could be next. Joe Willock looks likely to leave, and there are some other squad players who have served their purpose at this point, like Jacob Murphy, who we could potentially cash in on.

It still remains to be seen whether Gordon's sale is the only 'big player' exit we'll see, as some reports have suggested that Newcastle may need to shift two of its bigger stars, but we'll see how the summer unfolds.
