Newcastle accept Anthony Gordon bid as Barcelona agree €80m package - Fabrizio Romano

Anthony Gordon looks to be Barcelona-bound after Newcastle United accepted the Spanish side's bid of £69.3 million plus add-ons.

News broke on Wednesday morning that Barcelona were now the frontrunners for Anthony Gordon's signature after Bayern Munich refused to meet Newcastle's demands.

The story has moved quickly as the day has gone on, as an €80 million (£69.3 million) plus add-ons bid was reported in the afternoon, and now it's being reported that Newcastle has accepted Barcelona's proposal.

Fabrizio Romano has reported via X that Anthony Gordon will head to Barcelona on Thursday for a medical and to put pen to paper on the move.

Gordon is heading to Barcelona on Thursday

There is a discrepancy between the fee that was originally reported and what Romano has claimed has been accepted, however.

Romano claims that the deal is €70 million (£60 million), rising to €80 million (£69.3 million), which is lower than what was being reported earlier in the day.

Newcastle had set a valuation of £80 million for Gordon, although some reports claimed that somewhere between £70m-£75m would have sealed the deal.

Newcastle looks set to get what they were asking for

As long as the add-on clauses are all things that will be easily hit, Newcastle still stand to pick up the best part of £70 million for the move, so they aren't too shy of what they were asking.

Everton will be due a slice of the profits after inserting a sell-on clause when he made his £45 million move to Tyneside. Hopefully, Newcastle have been clever enough to do the same.

Provided there are no hiccups, Anthony Gordon will be a Barcelona player before he links up with England for the World Cup on Monday. This is how Newcastle needs to do business from now on. Quickly and easily.

Can we do the same with incomings now, please?
