Dan Burn made his World Cup debut for England in the early hours of Monday morning as the Three Lions roared into the quarter-finals.

It was a memorable win for England at the Azteca, which should help to banish those painful memories of 1986 and Diego Maradona.

Newcastle United defender Dan Burn got his first taste of World Cup action when he was brought off the bench on 74 minutes to repel the Mexican wave of attack.

The 6'7" Geordie has been praised relentlessly on social media today for his efforts at the back, making six clearances - the joint most in the entire game and also the most by a late substitute in a World Cup game since records began in 1966.

Elated Burn filmed after England heroics 

The official England X account posted a clip of Burn celebrating in the tunnel and receiving some words from Thomas Tuchel before being asked for his instant reaction to the win.

We'd love to know exactly what Tuchel said to Burn, but it was obviously congratulatory given Burn's reaction. Then the big man went on to say that there are 'no words' to describe how that win felt.

We imagine there'll have been no wiping the smile off Burn's face all of Monday after finally getting to play at the absolute highest level in terms of the World stage, and of course, the height of the Azteca stadium, which Burn no doubt felt more than anyone given his extra altitude issue.

Dan Burn's career would make one hell of a movie. They did a documentary about Jamie Vardy and his rise through the ranks, and he didn't even lose a finger on his journey.

We are still absolutely buzzing for the lad. Not just because of what it means to him personally, but just how much praise he's been getting online from England fans.
